Warrior Truck Insurance

cover for a double cab pickup that works during the week and carries the family at weekends

Cover for a Warrior double cab pickup. It is usually rated as a light commercial vehicle, with the declared use covering both business work and social use, and fitted accessories declared alongside.

  • Double cab pickups
  • Accessories declared
  • Business and private use
  • FCA authorised and regulated

Quick answerWarrior insurance is pickup insurance. These are double cab vehicles that carry tools and tow trailers during the week and do family duty at weekends, and the policy has to cover both honestly. Accessories are the other live issue, because canopies, bars and lighting add up quickly. Tell us the vehicle and how it is used, and specialist UK brokers can come back with quotes.

Double Cab Pickups, in Brief

Six things that decide what a pickup costs to insure.

Even when the family is in it
Accessories add up fast
Canopies, bars and lighting
Use has to cover both sides
Business and social
Towing is common
Declare the trailer use
Pickups are stolen
They have a strong export market
Tools are separate
The load bed is not a toolbox

The basics

What a Double Cab Changes on the Policy

A pickup is usually rated as a light commercial vehicle. What complicates it is that the same vehicle carries a gang on Monday and a family on Sunday.

Damage to the vehicle

Including the load bed.

Declared use

Business and social together.

Accessories

Canopy, bars, lighting and liner.

Towing

Trailers and plant.

Passengers

A second row of seats.

Theft

A real exposure on these vehicles.

How it works

Four Steps to Getting Warrior Quoted

Four steps. Describe a Warrior pickup, name the drivers, explain the work, then choose the level of cover.

  1. You list what you run

Everything that makes a Warrior pickup what it is.

  2. You name the drivers

Or agree an age and licence condition.

  3. You explain the job

Trade work, site access, towing, or business and family use together.

  4. You pick the level

Third party upwards, with the excess you want.

What it covers

What a Pickup Policy Actually Covers

The usual light commercial sections. The two to think about are accessories, which carry their own limit, and tools, which the vehicle policy does not insure at all.

The sections of a policy on a double cab pickup
SectionWhere it sitsWhat to know
Third-party liabilityThe base of every policyOthers’ injuries and property
Fire, theft and attempted theftFrom the middle level upLocks, alarms and storage terms

Roadside and recoveryWhere offeredAsk what happens to a loaded vehicle
Legal coverBought as an extraDisputes and uninsured loss recovery
Goods carriedOutside motor coverInsured by a goods in transit policy

Tools in the back are not insured. The motor policy covers the vehicle and its fitted accessories, not the equipment in the load bed, and a canopy is not the same as a locked toolbox as far as a claim is concerned.

What it leaves out

Where a Pickup Policy Draws the Line

The limits follow the declaration. Anything outside the description, the use class or the driving terms puts your own cover at risk, though an injured third party is still paid and the cost recovered afterwards.

Anything not on the list

A new vehicle is covered once it is added, not before.

Drivers the terms exclude

Licence category, age and experience.

Paid carriage of goods

A standard policy does not stretch to it.

Equipment fitted later

Declare cranes, tail lifts and bodywork.

Cargo

A motor policy insures the vehicle, not the goods.

Tools and equipment in the load bed

Tool cover is arranged separately.

Kinds of Warrior

Double Cabs, Accessorised Vehicles and Working Pickups

The same vehicle appears in very different states depending on the owner, and the accessories are what an insurer wants listed.

Standard double cabs

Four doors and a load bed.

Accessorised pickups

Canopies, bars and lighting.

Working pickups

Racks, liners and tow gear.

Farm and estate vehicles

Off-road use declared.

Crew transport pickups

Carrying a gang to site.

Dual-use vehicles

Business and family together.

Who it suits

Who Runs a Warrior

Double cab pickups suit anybody who needs to carry people and equipment and get off tarmac now and then, which covers a lot of UK trades.

What Sets the Price on a Double Cab Pickup

Vehicle value, accessories, declared use, who drives and the claims record. We do not print average premiums.

Why accessories matter here

Canopies, bars, lighting and load bed equipment can add a substantial sum to a pickup, and accessories often sit under a separate limit rather than inside the vehicle value.

Why theft features so heavily

Double cab pickups have a strong resale and export market, and they are stolen in numbers, so security and where the vehicle is kept overnight carry real weight in the rating.

The details

Four Things a Pickup Owner Should Confirm

Most disputes over a Warrior pickup trace back to the description rather than the accident. Four habits prevent them.

  1. Keep the description current

Equipment fitted later still needs declaring.

  2. Check entitlements regularly

    Categories, medicals and endorsements.

  3. Declare business and social use

A work vehicle on social cover is a problem.

  4. Notify quickly

Late notification is a common reason for a dispute.

What a Broker Asks About a Pickup

Gather these six before you ask. Everything else on a quote for a Warrior pickup follows from them.

What you run

Everything that describes a Warrior pickup.

Who drives

Licence categories, ages and records.

The job

Trade work, site access, towing, or business and family use together.

Weights

Gross vehicle weight and payload.

Where it sleeps

Comparing

Reading Two Quotes on the Pickup Terms

The price is the last thing to look at. The cover, the excess, the driving terms and the fit to what a Warrior pickup actually does decide whether the policy works.

The protection

  • Level across the policy
  • Recovery when loaded
  • Windscreens

The excesses

  • Compulsory amount
  • Voluntary amount
  • Any extra for inexperience

The driver basis

  • Licence category
  • Years held
  • Temporary cover

The load and the work

  • Accessory limit
  • Towing permitted
  • Business use included

Ask what the accessory limit is. A canopy and bars reach it quickly. Unfamiliar terms are explained in our plain English jargon guide.

Cutting costs

Bringing a Pickup Premium Down Over Time

The levers are security, honest use declarations, named drivers and a clean record. We publish no savings figures.

Fit tracking and immobilisers

Theft is the big exposure.

Keep the accessory list current

Add things as you fit them.

Declare the use properly

Both sides of it.

Name the drivers

Rather than open driving.

Arrange tool cover

The vehicle policy will not pay.

Compare every renewal

Pickup pricing moves a great deal.

FAQs

Warrior Truck Insurance FAQs

Answers on double cabs, accessories, business use, towing and private use.

Is a double cab pickup insured as a van or a car?

Usually as a light commercial vehicle, because that is what it is. The declared use then has to cover both the business work and the social use rather than one or the other.

Are accessories covered?

Generally yes, though often under a sub-limit rather than the main vehicle value. A canopy, bars, lighting and a liner together can reach that limit, so list what is fitted at the quote.

Are tools in the back insured?

No. The motor policy covers the vehicle, not the equipment in the load bed, and a canopy does not turn it into a secure store. Tool cover is a separate arrangement.

Can I tow a plant trailer?

Yes, with the right licence entitlement and a declared use that covers it. Towing plant is different from towing a caravan, so describe what you actually pull.

Does carrying the family need declaring?

The use does. A vehicle described as commercial only and then used for the school run is not accurately declared, and that is exactly the detail an insurer examines after a claim.

Are pickups often stolen?

They are targeted, because there is a strong market for them and for their parts. Tracking, immobilisers and where the vehicle sleeps all feature prominently in the questions asked.

Does off-road use affect the cover?

Using it on a farm or a site should be mentioned, because damage there is common and some policies restrict use away from the public road. It is rarely a problem once declared.

Can it go on a business fleet policy?

Yes, alongside vans and other commercial vehicles. Each is rated on its own use inside one schedule, which keeps a single renewal date across the vehicles.

Is the cargo insured by this policy?

No, and it is the most common misunderstanding on commercial motor. The vehicle is covered; the load is not. Goods in transit cover fills that gap and is normally bought alongside.

Do we need hire and reward cover?

Only if the vehicle carries goods for payment. Moving your own stock or materials is own goods use. Where a vehicle does both, it has to be insured for the wider of the two.

Does the driver need a specific licence?

The category has to match the weight being driven. Insurers also ask how long it has been held, because experience moves the price more than most operators expect.

How should we judge a quote on a Warrior pickup?

Beyond the price: the level of cover, the total excess, recovery of a loaded vehicle, the driving terms, and whether any equipment fitted to the vehicle has been declared and accepted.

Can several vehicles share one policy?

Yes, and most operators end up there. One schedule, one renewal date and one claims record, with each vehicle type rated separately inside it. Adding the next one then becomes an adjustment rather than a new policy.

Does the yard affect what we pay?

Noticeably. Overnight location carries the theft risk, and insurers rate a secured compound quite differently from a street or an open hardstanding. It is one of the few levers fully within your control.

What is the process for adding a vehicle?

A mid-term adjustment charged pro rata for the rest of the year. Do it before the vehicle turns a wheel, because cover starts when the insurer accepts it and not a moment earlier.

Do we need recovery cover for a Warrior pickup?

Many operators find they do. Check whether the service recovers a loaded vehicle, how far it will take it and whether a replacement is offered, because those three points are where policies differ most.
