If you’ve recently had trouble using your Tesco Clubcard reward points to purchase railcard products, you’re not alone. It seems a technical glitch is the reason behind this problem.

Tesco Clubcard’s website had the following notice for customers: “We are currently experiencing technical issues with the railcard products and you will be unable to complete your order at this time.” No other explanation about the problem was listed on the site.

The technical issue started last week, and customers have been complaining right along. The Rail Delivery Group, which runs railcards, has said it is trying to fix the issue as fast as possible.

It seems the technical glitch has been caused by Railcard Delivery Group’s move to new systems for its customer database and website. The hope is that in the long run, the new system should make it faster and easier to buy and use a railcard. In the short term, you can expect there will be technical issues as they make the change to the new systems.

Customers have been very vocal on social media about not being able to use their Clubcard points for railcards. The scheme normally allows users to triple their points on five different one-year railcards including the 16-25, Disabled Persons, Family & Friends, Seniors and Two Together. As an example, customers could use £10’s worth of Clubcard vouchers to buy a £30 one-year 16-25 Railcard.
